A lot of these early directors figured that nobody would check. They were making these films, figuring that they would play for a week or two in a seedy porn theater that would be the last that anybody ever heard of it. Nobody knew home video would be invented, let alone an internet that could show any film ever made. So they would just go through the record collection, and "needle drop" stuff not caring who owned it.
